The Glorious Quran

The Glorious Quran: Text, Translation and Commentary ABDUL MAJID DARYABADI (1892-1977), born in India, obtained his BA (Hons.) in Philosophy from Canning College,He devoted his whole life to the cause of Islam and published scores of books and articles in both English and Urdu, which bring out the excellence of Islam. Throughout his academic career he edited the Urdu weekly Sachch and then Sidq (1925-76), which was acclaimed in the Indo-Pak Subcontinent for its inspiring message and stylistic features. Daryabadi was actively associated with the Khilafat Movement; Royal Asiatic Society, London; Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh; Nadwatul Ulema, Lucknow; Shibli Academy, Azamgarh and several other leading Islamic and literary organisations. In addition to contributing an extensive commentary on the Qur'an in English, Daryabadi wrote also an independent to fsir in Urdu published as Ta fsir Mdjidi (Lucknow, Academy of Islamic Research and Publications). THE GLORIOUS QUR'AN is an abridged version of 'Abdul Majid Daryabadi's Ta fsir al-Qur'an (Lucknow, Academy of Islamic Research and Publications, 4 Volumes, 1 9 8 1 - 8 5). In addition to presenting a truly faithful and idiomatic English translation which retains almost all the original Arabic syntax and word-order in its translation of the Qur'anic text, Daryabadi's work represents as an admirable venture into comparative religion. Based on a thoroughly critical study of the Bible in particular, as also other major world faiths, anthropology and history in general, Daryabadi cogently demonstrates how the Qur'an stands out above other Scriptures which have been tampered with down the ages. Another valuable element of the work is the elucidation of Islam which it provides - its life-giving articles of faith, its life-sustaining teachings and its lifeenriching worldview in a manner best suited for the English speaking reading public. # Cover: Hardback # Author: Abdul Majid Daryabadi # Publisher: The Islamic Foundation # Pages: 1149 # Weight: 1195(Gram)
